Charity Connections

The majority of the china and cake stands at Loopy Lorna’s have come from the charity shops on Morningside Road. Determined to have an eclectic mix of beautiful and unusual items, the collection has taken many months to gather and will be an ongoing project.

Particular favourite charity shops are The Marie-Curie shop (http://hospiceedinburgh.mariecurie.org.uk/)  and St.Columba’s Hospice Shop (http://www.stcolumbashospice.org.uk/) as these raise funds for the care of the terminally ill and their families. Loopy Lorna’s is dedicated to my mum, Lorna, who died 12 years ago from lung cancer.

My mum’s last days were spent at Strathcarron Hospice (http://www.strathcarronhospice.org)  near Stirling and I could not fault the care and attention that both my mum and our family were given at this extremely distressing time. I believe that this is a highly valuable service and one which is incomparable in the quality and attention given to those both in their care and to their families.

Loopy Lorna’s opened on 17th October 2008 and the official launch party was held on Tuesday 28th October.

We raised £530 from the launch for the Marie-Curie Hospice at Fairmilehead and it’s hoped that this will be just the start of a calendar of events to raise money for this and other local good causes. I have chosen Marie-Curie as the key charity to fund as I see it as the most fitting tribute to my mum. I also had the benefit of Marie-Curie nursing staff while my mum was ill and again the care and service was excellent.

Our most recent event for Marie Curie involved the fabulous Carol Singing Choir from George Watson's College, donating their time to serenade our lovely customers in December.

The total funds raised to date for Marie Curie, from all our events  is £1155.01
